On Saturday 16 April, the team from Osborne State School made the trek to Alva Beach to participate in the Tangaroa Blue Alva Beach Clean Up morning.Tangaroa Blue Foundation is an Australian-wide not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the removal and prevention of marine debris.  The students, parents and teachers arrived bright and early, all keen to help clean up one of our beautiful local beaches.  After a short safety briefing, the team headed off to the beach, clean up bags in hand.  The students worked tirelessly, gathering over 20kg ofrubbishh!  All sorts of rubbish was collected from the shoreline including numerous pieces of plastic, swathes of bottles tops, chip packets, plastic bags, bits of rope and even a number of thongs (no pairs unfortunately!).  Once the bulging bags of rubbish had been returned to the clean-up station in the park, students set to sorting the rubbish to find out exactly what was the worst polluter of the day.  From the bags we sorted, bottle tops and plastic were by far the worst offenders.  The students had a great time finding out more about marine pollution and how to prevent this happening in the future.  We look forward to our next opportunity to help look after our local environment.
