Monday 16 May saw 6 excited students waiting impatiently at the front of Osborne State School – they were packed and ready to leave for their camp to Paluma.  These 6 students joined children from Maidavale State School, Millaroo State School and Camooweel State School at the Paluma Environmental Education Centre for the annual S4 – Supporting Small Schools Science Camp.

While on camp, the children worked together to create their very own ‘David Attenborough style’ mini-documentary, investigating the plants and animals unique to the Wet Tropics.  Mini-documentaries such as ‘A Murder in the Rainforest’ and ‘Gecko Boys’ took a close look at interesting organisms such as the Strangler Fig and the Northern Leaf-Tailed Gecko.  The level of engagement was incredibly high and the quality of the documentaries produced by the students was excellent.  But not only did they produce documentaries, the students also explored the rainforest and investigated macro-invertebrates living in Wet Creek, checked out the Bandicoot Bench and went on a night walk to discover Glowing Fungus.  All too soon Friday morning arrived and the students had to say goodbye to their new friends and make the long trek home for a good night’s sleep.
