On Thursday 8 June our school travelled to Charters Towers to explore the history of the gold rush. We learned that Charters Towers was founded in 1871 when Jupiter Mosman, an aboriginal horse boy, discovered gold in a creek at the foot of Charters Hill. The students had a fabulous time exploring the Zara Clark Museum, checking out the view from the Towers Hill Lookout and exploring the Pioneer's Cemetery. They also got to try their hand at gold panning when they visited the Miner's Cottage. Most of them even found gold! It was fascinating to be able to see and touch an integral part of Queensland's history.
